Will Thailand Become an EU Visa-Exempt Country?
The request for visa exemption for Thai nationals traveling to the 29 countries within the Schengen Area is gaining significant momentum. Thailand and the European Union initiated diplomatic relations in 1972 and have since become reliable partners. The two parties recently reaffirmed their partnership at the Thai-EU Joint Committee meeting in Brussels.
At this meeting, Thailand formally requested that EU visa exemption be granted to holders of Thai passports. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, approximately 1.6 million Thai people traveled to Europe, spending around €2.3 billion. Currently, the EU is the third-largest source of tourists visiting Thailand. There are also direct flights between Thailand and European countries, and Thailand has already granted visa-free entry to all EU citizens. In return, Thailand is now requesting reciprocal visa-free status from the EU.
Thailand meets all the EU's visa exemption criteria. There's no need for concern as the number of Thai citizens applying for asylum in the EU is very low, at only about 50 per year. In addition, Thai travel documents are highly secure and machine-readable, utilizing French technology. These factors provide sufficient justification for including Thailand on the list of EU visa-exempt countries. Given all these reasons, will Thailand finally become an EU visa-exempt country?

ဥရောပ နိုင်ငံ ၂၉ နိုင်ငံ ပါဝင်တဲ့ Schengen area ထဲကို သွားရောက်တဲ့အခါ ထိုင်းနိုင်ငံသားတွေကို ဗီဇာကင်းလွတ်ခွင့် ပေးဖို့ တောင်းဆိုမှုတွေ တော်တော်လေးစိတ်လာပါတယ်၊ ထိုင်းနိုင်ငံနဲ့ ဥရောပသမဂ္ဂ တို့ဟာ ၁၉၇၂ ခုနှစ်မှာ သံတမန် ဆက်ဆံရေး စတင်ခဲ့ပြီး ယုံကြည်စိတ်ချရတဲ့ မိတ်ဖက်တွေ ဖြစ်လာခဲ့ပါတယ်၊ မကြာသေးခင်က ဘရပ်ဆဲလ်မှာ ကျင်းပခဲ့တဲ့ ထိုင်း-အီးယူ ပူးပေါင်းကော်မတီအစည်းအဝေးမှာ ၂ နိုင်ငံ မိတ်ဖက် ဆက်ဆံရေးကို ထပ်ပြီး အတည်ပြုခဲ့ပါတယ်။
ထိုင်းနိုင်ငံဟာ ထိုင်းနိုင်ငံကူးလက်မှတ်ကိုင်ဆောင်သူတွေကို အီးယူ ဗီဇာကင်းလွတ်ခွင့်ပေးဖို့ အထက်ပါ အစည်းအဝေးမှာ တောင်းဆိုခဲ့ပါတယ်၊ ကိုဗစ် ၁၉ မတိုင်ခင်က ထိုင်းလူမျိုး ၁.၆ သန်းခန့်ဟာ ဥရောပကို သွားရောက်လည်ပတ်ခဲ့ပြီး ယူရို ၂.၃ ဘီလီယံ သုံးစွဲခဲ့ပါတယ်၊ လက်ရှိမှာလည်း အီးယူဟာ ထိုင်းကို လာရောက်လည်ပတ်တဲ့ ခရီးသွားတွေထဲ တတိယအများဆုံးပါ၊ ထိုင်းနဲ့ ဥရောပ နိုင်ငံတွေကြားမှာ တိုက်ရိုက်လေကြောင်းခရီးစဉ်တွေလည်း ရှိပြီး ထိုင်းနိုင်ငံဟာ အီးယူနိုင်ငံသားအားလုံးကို ဗီဇာ ကင်းလွတ်ခွင့် ပေးခဲ့ပါတယ်၊ အပြန်အလှန်အနေနဲ့ အီးယူကလည်း ထိုင်းကို ဗီဇာကင်းလွတ်ခွင့်ပေးဖို့ တောင်းဆိုတာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။
ထိုင်းနိုင်ငံအနေနဲ့ အီးယူ ဗီဇာကင်းလွတ်ခွင့် သတ်မှတ်ချက်အားလုံးနဲ့ ကိုက်ညီပြီး အီးယူကို ခိုလှုံခွင့် လျှောက်ထားတဲ့ ထိုင်း နိုင်ငံသား အရေအတွက်ဟာ တစ်နှစ်ကို ၅၀ ခန့်သာ ရှိတာမို့ စိတ်ပူစရာမလိုပါဘူး၊ ဒါ့အပြင် ထိုင်းရဲ့ ခရီးသွား စာရွက် စာတမ်းတွေ ဟာ ပြင်သစ်နည်းပညာကို အသုံးပြုပြီး စက်နဲ့ ဖတ်ရှုနိုင်အောင် ပြုလုပ်ထားတဲ့ လုံခြုံရေးမြင့်မားတဲ့ စာရွက်စာတမ်းတွေ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဒါတွေကတော့ ထိုင်းနိုင်ငံကို အီးယူဗီဇာကင်းလွတ်ခွင့် ပေးတဲ့ နိုင်ငံစာရင်းထဲ ထည့်သွင်းပေးဖို့ လုံလောက်တဲ့ အကြောင်းရင်းတွေပဲ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်၊ ဒါတွေကြောင့် ထိုင်းနိုင်ငံဟာ အီးယူဗီဇာကင်းလွတ်ခွင့်ရ နိုင်ငံတစ်နိုင်ငံ ဖြစ်လာတော့မလား။
