In 2027, it may become more difficult to get an H-1B visa to go to the United States.
An H-1B visa is a type of visa issued to skilled foreign workers by U.S.-based companies. The number of H-1B visas issued annually is set at around 85,000. Due to the high number of applicants, visas are typically granted through a lottery system. Those who receive this visa have the right to live and work in the U.S. temporarily and can later apply for a Green Card. This is known as the Lottery System.
However, with the new policy changes, the selection process is set to become stricter. Instead of the random lottery system, the new plan is to implement a wage-based system where applicants are chosen based on the salary they will receive. This means that applicants with the highest salaries will be prioritized, and selections will be made in descending order of salary. This system, known as the wage-based system, is expected to be implemented in FY2027.
This change could benefit experienced professionals with high salaries but may significantly reduce opportunities for recent university graduates with less work experience.
