UK's 2025 Skilled Worker Visa's Impact on the Aviation Industry

The Skilled Worker Visa is a type of visa required to work in the UK. This visa is for skilled professionals in various fields such as technology, engineering, and medicine. Previously, applicants did not need a degree, but the new regulations have raised the minimum skill level, requiring a bachelor's degree.

Under the new rules, there is a Temporary Shortage List (TSL). While jobs on this list are eligible for visa applications, those not on the list are now much more difficult to apply for. Positions like cabin crew and ground maintenance staff are not included on the TSL, making it challenging for these skilled workers to apply for visas. Existing workers in jobs not on TSL can still renew their visas but are no longer allowed to bring family members.

Additionally, the minimum salary requirement has been increased from £38,700 to £41,700, and other requirements have also been raised. Previously, individuals could apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after five years of continuous residence, but this period has now been extended to 10 years.

Due to these new visa regulations and requirements, the UK's aviation sector is likely to face a shortage of skilled workers.
